PFP Inspector Training Programme
On 23rd September 2020 the Hydrocarbon Passive Fire Protection Network (PFPNet) and the Institute of Corrosion (ICorr) launched the Passive Fire Protection Inspector Training Programme with three separate online seminars during the day to capture the various time zones for attendees from around the globe.
The Inspector Training Programme is specifically targeted at inspectors who are going to be inspecting new installations of both epoxy and cementitious PFP materials for hydrocarbon fire protection. From owners to engineers to contractors there is a recognition that standards of installation of these materials, which are absolutely safety and life critical, have fallen in recent years, part of this due to project cost reduction generally and therefore reduced spend on qualified individuals to inspect PFP installations.
PFP Specialists (PFPS) were the selected contractor to develop the training course with a target to generally educate those attending about the criticality of passive fire protection and during the five days of the course educate and inform about the various stages of PFP installation and what can go wrong, potentially leading to poor installation standards. A PFPNet Training Committee comprising leading industry specialists were involved in a review and critique of the course content prior to it being released.
PFPNet and ICorr are confident that the PFP Inspector Training Programme is unequalled in the industry in terms of its content and ability to produce Level 3 qualified inspectors, it will also be delivered by industry experts as tutors. PFPS Director John Dunk has been heavily engaged in the overall programme and launch and commented that there are strong indications that qualification of individuals to the PFP Inspector Training Programme will be adopted by a number of leading companies as a required qualification for inspectors of their projects.
